A financial agent that reads your cash flows continuously — without asking you anything — can tell three months before you do that you will need financing, and put you in touch with the partners able to provide it. This is no longer fiction: it is the trajectory for 2027–2030, with e-invoicing as its foundation and Open Finance as its access layer. The central bet: turning financing from a once-a-year request into a process of continuous identification, in which the company and its funders are plugged into the same data.

The signal: e-invoicing and Open Banking make financing needs visible

Visible · today

Three facts are converging that make the detector-type financial agent possible by 2027.

First reality: structured data flows. Since 1 September 2026, mandatory e-invoicing in France has been turning every customer transaction into usable data. SMEs and mid-sized companies will follow in 2027. What used to be estimated — actual payment terms, the fine detail of revenue seasonality, customer concentration, cash burn rate — becomes a directly observable flow. This is no longer a tax reform; it is an infrastructure for continuous visibility of business activity.

Second signal: authorised access to financial data. Open Banking laid down the framework. With the company's consent, an agent — an AI or a platform — can directly access receipts, working capital needs and actual payment times. No document requests, no manual extraction, no arguments over the figures. A continuous connection.

Third signal: agents are starting to act without being asked. The first generations of financial agents — at the largest private credit and private equity players — can now identify a financing need before the company articulates it. By reading the structure of cash, the spending curve and the trend in trade receivables, an agent can anticipate: “you will need EUR 2.5 million of working capital in March 2027”. The request becomes implicit. The initiative passes to whoever is observing.

The mechanism: how an agent detects a working capital need without asking

Invisible · today

How the agent detects the need without asking a single question.

Continuous reading of cash flowsThe agent no longer asks; it observes. An agent connected to customer invoices, bank receipts and order data can continuously rebuild the company's real working capital need. It sees monthly spending, revenue recurrence, payment terms and seasonal volatility. Three months before a foreseeable cash squeeze, the agent knows there is a need. The company usually finds out later — when cash starts to tighten or the bank manager calls.

Calculating the need without a declarationFrom “what financing are you looking for?” to “here is what your data tells us”. The need is not stated by management; it is derived from observed flows. The agent can say: “your order book points to a 40% acceleration in Q2, your customers pay at 60 days, you have three payrolls to meet each month — you will need EUR 3.2 million of additional cash from 15 February to 15 April 2027”. This analysis rests on no assumption made by management. It rests solely on observation of the actual data.

Fig. 2 — The loop: the agent observes the flows, detects the implicit need and alerts the pre-qualified funder, who can respond quickly without a static file.

Building a shared belief about the outlookObserved ≠ Bet on. The agent reads what it sees: observed payment terms, the real volatility of seasonality, the absorption curve of overheads. But it does not read what belongs to your strategic conviction: you are going to win a market, acquire a competitor, recruit a senior management team, pivot your model. Shared belief means getting your funder to accept that distinction.

In practice, this means documenting your three strategic variables. For a fast-growing SaaS company: expansion into the German market, the acquisition of three small competitors, the hiring of a US VP Product. For a manufacturer: the move to a new plant, the conversion of a site, taking the flagship product line upmarket. Everything else must be reconciled with observed reality.

The shift in perspective

Tomorrow, nobody will ask you “how do you know it will work?”. They will ask: “which three variables are you really betting on, and how does everything else compare with your sector's track record?” Belief becomes documented because what can be observed already is.

What the players are betting on: detector agents and qualified funders

Announced · tomorrow

Two categories of players are positioning themselves on this new infrastructure: those who detect, and those who respond.

Detector agents. Private credit platforms, private equity funds, lending banks and fintechs are gradually deploying agents that continuously scan companies' cash flows — with their explicit consent. These agents do not ask; they alert. A company that has opened its data to an agent knows it will be warned three months before a foreseeable squeeze. The bet: that this agility produces a visible competitive edge (shorter lead times, better execution, improved terms).

Qualified financing partners. These agents can only work when plugged into an ecosystem of responders — banks, funds, factoring and invoice finance providers, lessors, credit insurers — able to say quickly: “yes, we can finance this specific need”. The future infrastructure will therefore not be a centralised platform, but a network of funders who expose themselves with a clear risk profile: sector, ticket size, company maturity, accepted security. The agent matching company and responder becomes the central cog.

The central bet: that funders who adopt this infrastructure from 2027–2028 will build a deal-flow and speed advantage — a first-mover premium before the model becomes standard.

Closing the gap: three priorities to make your company readable by funders

In your hands · now

Over the next three years, three priorities will determine who benefits from this transformation and who has it imposed on them.

1. Connectable raw data

Move from e-invoices received and issued to clean, reconciled and exportable data. Make sure your banking, accounting and sales flows can be read by an external agent with your consent — without manual extraction and without debate over the value of the figures.

2. Build a shared belief

Identify and document your three strategic variables — the ones only you know: a market to win, a critical acquisition in sight, a decisive hire. Everything else must be observable by your financing partners. Separate what belongs to your strategic conviction from what belongs to traceable flows.

3. Choose your agents and funders

Identify which of your banks, funds and financing platforms have, or will have, a detector agent connected to your flows. Set up differentiated access according to the level of confidentiality. Lay down the rules: when the agent may alert your funders, and when it must ask for your permission.

The question for 2027–2030

You will be read by agents. The question is not whether, but when you accept it and by whom. Those who actively choose their agents and financing partners will raise finance quickly. Those who wait will have them imposed.

The agent does not question your data: it reads it. With e-invoicing and Open Finance, the financing conversation will replace the business plan with a continuous dialogue. Being readable becomes the competitive advantage in financing.
